I was installing a processor on a friends motherboard recently. Thinking I had the processor seated in the motherboard I attempt to put the heat sink back (which you have to apply a bit of force to do) and, to make a long story short, I ended up bending a number of pins on the processor.
Here I am now, 2 days later, and I finally got all 940 pins bent back to the correct position.
Oh well, learning experience to say the least.

The correct term would be lying, as laying would require an action to an object. You lay something on you, and you lie on something else.
